All our books are stored outside of our retail store. For personal pickup, it is necessary to pre-order the books.

About us

Our bookstore and antiquarian have been part of Liberec for over 30 years. In our physical store in the city center, you'll find an extensive variety of books – fiction, specialized literature, children's books, audiobooks, foreign language books, educational textbooks. You can also choose calendars, diaries, coloring books, and board games for both children and adults. Our antiquarian is one of the largest in the Czech Republic, offering Czech and foreign language books, LP records, postcards, maps, and paintings. On the first floor, you can enjoy coffee or tea, and there's a children's corner available. We also organize various cultural events, including traditional Sunday fairy tales, author meetings, and discussions on interesting topics.

History

In 1990, Jaroslav Fryč resigned from his job and fully devoted himself to what had always fascinated him – books and culture. Perhaps some people still remember his sales tables in the arcade by the town hall or in the Dunaj Palace. In the brick-and-mortar store in Prague, where the bookstore relocated in 1991, shoe repair machines had to be removed first, followed by construction adjustments and gradual expansion of retail space. The demand for books was still high. That's why Mr. Fryč decided to expand the book business to include an antiquarian, which became the largest in the Czech Republic within a few years. There was also a great effort to find the requested book for customers – the motto 'We don't have it, but we'll find it' was fulfilled in practice – initially by sending a handwritten note from the owner, later through SMS or email, notifying customers that the book was ready for pickup. These were the foundations for the creation of Fryč's Bookstore Club, which now has more than 10,000 members.

With the support of the City of Liberec, we soon began organizing regular Sunday fairy tales in our bookstore, attended by the children of our first visitors. We strive to liven up the bookstore space with art exhibitions, invite authors for book discussions, and host lectures on interesting topics or musical performances.

In 2014, there was a change in ownership, and the bookstore was taken over by the son, Martin. Nevertheless, Jaroslav found enough strength and enthusiasm to return as the new owner in the spring of 2023 and lead the bookstore once again.
